I'm not sure that the reference here is valid. Carbon nanotubes are actual, existing items (cite - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbon_nanotube) so I'm not sure that this has anything to do with referring to the Internet as a series of tubes on the Daily Show. Does anyone know if the reference was intended or is this just speculation? --Tanstaafl 09:42, 6 December 2006 (CST)

  • It almost definitely is - it specifically uses the term "series of tubes" and compares it to "interior nets" (surprisingly similar to "internets"). --Quietust (t|c) 09:47, 6 December 2006 (CST)
  • What, the reference in this line? "This, like most interior nets, is a series of tubes." Given that "interior nets" is four letters away from "internet", and damned close anyway, and also how the interior nets comment doesn't make sense any other way, I think it's certain that this is a reference to Ted Stevens. Otherwise, we're stuck wondering, "What the crap is an interior net?" Definitely a reference. --Southwest 09:49, 6 December 2006 (CST)
  • Ah, I missed the "interior nets" connection. That makes sense. (And that's why I asked as opposed to simply changing things.) Thanks. -- Tanstaafl 10:08, 6 December 2006 (CST)
