Talk:Chunk of depleted Grimacite
Lag Monster Theory. Ok this is how my Lag Monster Theory goes.. are you ready... i know you are ^_~... Grimacite is pure lag. The essence of lag. Lag in it's spectraly pure form. The Mafia knows this. The NS knows this. Together they have been working together to mine this Lag Ore and refine it's power to fit their own design. On a pre-set day the Mafia and the NS planned to unleash a Lagtastrophe on KoL effectivly freezing the market. Using the funds from the Raffle and their essential drones already wearing Grimacite Gear they will take over all the meat in KoL. The Mafia Gets Rich, the NS Gets stronger (lvl 13 stronger). And a ton of meat is sunk out of the game. This magnetic storm (attracted to the site by the inert properties in the grimacite) has thrown their plans array and given us, the citizens of KoL, one last chance to fight back by shineing some light on the activitys in the mine. By using the depleated chunks of grimacite and some unknown secret of the meteor's core, donations of enriched grimacite to the council will allow the Kingdom as a whole from fighting back against the Mafia and the NS. During the epic battle the NS will use the last stores of Lag power she will asscend to level 13 while the Mafia will again be defeated and sink back into the shadows. This also explains the horrible lag while trying to farm for grimacite.. I think its a perfect theory =P --Zafoquat 14:07, 19 June 2007 (CDT)

Unfinished
Just curious - The description seems to indicate that it might be usable to cause damage - unfinished weapon or single use item? --Grimdel 10:19, 18 June 2007 (PST)
- I think that line about being hit with the eye references that song, That's Amore, or something. Perhaps though.--Creamy 00:21, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
What is it good for?
Does anyone know?Tuck999 03:13, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- Absolutely nothing! Say it again now! But in all seriousness, there's nothing indicating (presently) what good this item, yet. This very well may, and probably will, change from this time to NS13. Only time can tell. :)--esko 07:02, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- It might do something in accordance with Ronald and/or Grimace?--Raisins 10:10, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Maybe it's supposed to be useless. I mean, "moon rocks" in real life are pretty pointless, it's just kind of cool to say that you have one.--Anmbia 10:22, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- Lots of people wanted to mine for Grimacite (frequent requests on radio shows), so Jick did this. However, that's all he did - he's not about to let people actually do anything with it. --Quietust (t|c) 10:28, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- ... or the ultimate screwage, in that you collect enough to the point where you'll contract some odd disease. This would be further punctuated by the inability to discard them. --TheMonkofDestiny 11:24, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
The non-discardable aspect makes me suspect it will be a special skill-based component, much like petrified time. --Blastphemist 10:30, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Well, it says it's "depleted", so maybe there's some way to recharge it? Might have something to do with the storms that have popped up. --LegendaryBard 10:35, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
There's a definite parallel to depleted uranium. That would suggest that the Mob penguins have been extracting enriched Grimacite somehow, for some nefarious purpose that the Sorceress will probably exploit to make the jump to NS13. :-) If so, then the depleted Grimacite (like DU) would be the byproduct of the fuel-extraction process and not likely to be recharged. DU is very dense and is good for armor-piercing bullets, so maybe the DG will turn out to be used for high-level weapons and armor. It's not harmless though -- it's mildly radioactive and there's some controversy about it vaporizing on impact and poisioning people/animals/water supplies. --Harry Crimboween 12:59, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Grimace and the mini-moon go dark in two days. Try then. We may have to wait until they both are full. --Blazingthunder 13:14, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
You can turn it in, in Seaside Town. Wrong side of the tracks, the "Secretive Mason". I don't have any, so, no clue what turning it in does for you. --Bork 05:17, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
Drop Rate
I didn't keep track of my drops but my opinion comes from about 1.8k adventures a day in the mine. The drop rates dropping. Even assumeing the RNG over my last 4-5k ish adventures ive noticed less frequency in the grimacite drops. Can anyone else confirm or deny or speculate on this?--Zafoquat 10:16, 20 June 2007 (CDT)
hmmmmn, I got 38 in 221 adventures with +147% item drop modifier --jeremypv 09:40, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Doesn't appear to be a special drop so far. I got 14 drops in 332 adventures with no item bonus active. (332 = 156 smasher + 110 smith + 66 supervisor, and all three can drop it.) That suggests an aggregate drop rate from the three different penguins of around 3-5% ... maybe 1/22. --Harry Crimboween 04:32, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Using a multi, I've got around 8% drop rate. 150% extra drop rate and I got 12 in 100 adventures. --MrAndersonMan 08:40, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
I scored 30 depleted Grimacite drops out of 257 adventures with a 224% item drop bonus. So the average ag. drop rate should be around...4-5%? --GameWhino 11:00, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
I got 79 depleted Grimacite in 370 adventures with a 302.5% item drop increase, according to KOLMafia, anyway.--Hamelin 13:10, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- Note: the depleted grimacite chunks drop from 3 different monsters and they need not have the same drop rate for the chunks. Also see Talk:The_Grim_Grimacite_Site#Weather. --Nappa 13:58, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Could the drop rate be affected by the moon phases? --Duzell 11:34, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
Smithing??
Has anyone tried smithing it with anything? If so, what happens?? --Raisins 10:08, 18 June 2007 (CDT) Well, it's got no smithing tag on it, so... Nothing happens. --TechSmurf 10:12, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Can't cook/mix it (I think), but has anyone tried Advanced Meatsmithing/Armourcrafting/Cooking/Cocktailcrafting/anything? Nagyss 08:31, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
It's a Trap!
What with the inclement weather, wouldn't wandering around with hundreds of pounds of non-discardable grimicite be, y'know, kinda trappish? --Foryst 11:31, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Well, of course it could be a trap. ;-) But it's a game ... what's the worst that could happen? A bunch of new content a la the gray plague. And you can still trade/sell it and toss it in your clan stash. Maybe the cannot-be-discarded nature of it is temporary, just to increase the amount of depleted Grimacite in the game. That might suggest that it will be an important and popular item. --Harry Crimboween 13:06, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
My first idea too. It's tradable (so hoarders can hoard), but cannot be discarded. Are there other items with the same properties? --Amlethus 14:39, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- Most (all?) Mr. Store items (including the Mr. Accessories themselves) are coded this way. --Jonrock 14:48, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, I'm thinking it's either going to be a bad thing and turn into a hot potato (the supposed parallels to depleted uranium are a little worrying), or it's gonna be something cool and eventually unobtainable, like petrified time. --LegendaryBard 16:35, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Yeah, we will all get radiation poisoning from it. That sounds like something the NS would want. --Anmbia 18:53, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- Except that real DU is not particularly radioactive... the hazards from it being a brittle, pyrophoric, heavy metal are the relevant ones. It's like lead, but more toxic. (Yes, it is somewhat radioactive, just not exceedingly so.) Evand 20:54, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
- Just remember - its not really depleted uranium - Jick can make it have whatever properties he wants it to have. Also, the current indications is that the NS has declared war on the Penguins, and the Penguins are losing - so any depleted grimacite you find isn't due to the NS - the Penguins still possess the meteor... at least for now... Grimdel 19:04, 18 June 2007 (PST)
Is it more of a trap of time? Between this and Worm Wood, seems we are slated to sink adventures prior to NS13 vice leveling. --Magered 23:40, 18 June 2007 (CDT)
Speculation Points
- Non-Discardable but tradeable implys unrolled out effect and a limited drop availibilty. They get farmed, farm dissapears, they cant dissapear, they gain some use.--Zafoquat 13:41, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
- Haveing it on your person, or NOT haveing it on your person could impact your account, i.e. Grey Plague--Zafoquat 13:41, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
- Despite not haveing a tag for Smith/Paste/Cook still possible it is involved in a recipie.--Zafoquat 13:41, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
- Depleated infers that some energy or essence is missing from it. Regular Grimacite Gear has very nice attributes allowing us to assume what ever was ... "pleated?" out of the grimacite is a useful thing to... "pleat?" With NS13 approching and the NS becoming more powerful lots of connections can be drawn between the two.--Zafoquat 13:41, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
- It is not depleated (unfolded), it is depleted (used up). See the notes about comparisions to depleted uranium. --Club (#66669) (Talk) 14:37, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
- Updated use effects for the Mob Cellular Phone involved a staticy intercepted call concerning invaders (Us adventurers or someone else?) and preventing them from reaching the ""core"". Implys further rollout in the Grim Grimacite Mine adventure area. Possible source of Enriched grimacite.--Zafoquat 13:41, 19 June 2007 (CDT)
- Nope, nothing happens trophywise if you donate 100. Save your meat ! Fubushi 01:11, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
- Is it possible that the trophy won't be released until NS13 is rolled out? --WindChaser 10:52, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
- That's what I was assuming - the possibility of a trophy for 10/100 Bricks bought, a la the Yeti Protest and Unionize The Elves signs. After all, Jick HAS promised about 20 new trophies for NS13, and he could easily hold off on "activating" such a trophy until after the change. Personally, I'm "mining" the crap out of it and then sitting on it until after the changeover... Hossenfeffer 19:31, 23 June 2007 (CDT)
- Just a random thought, but suppose when enough people have donated the amount of Grimacite at Hagnks reaches critical mass or something and it explodes. It would fit with Hagnks' luck and could provide the narrative for why Ronin will be so much longer after NS13. -- Tanstaafl 11:22, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
- This definetly directly corrispondes to how Hagnk's is going to change post ns13. I think that if donating becomes why you can just pull everything out at once that there will be an alternative method of getting this permission, so most likely it will simply be a meatsink and part of the story line or have some additional reward other then the forementioned changes to hagnks--Zafoquat 12:46, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
- I think that this is not the end of the uses of the grimacite. I for one am donating, keeping some for possible further uses, keeping some for nostalgic purposes, and possible increased market value down the road (i.e. pineal glands)--Zafoquat 12:46, 21 June 2007 (CDT)
- Being the "hardest and heaviest material in the Kingdom" it would make good armor, or an awesome club. --Co678 18:16, 23 June 2007 (CDT)
- Really Expensive Jewlery and You... Hmmm...
- This was the first thing I thought of when I noticed that there were new settings/new skill book in the jewelers. No dice - really expensive jewelrymaking doesn't seme to be able to use Grimacite chunks. Hossenfeffer 21:07, 25 June 2007 (CDT)
- Has anyone tried dousing some depleted grimacite in gnomochloric acid, yet ...?--Bork 09:27, 26 June 2007 (CDT)
- Grimacite isn't a cooking ingredient, doesn't even show up in the menu.
- Has anyone tried dousing some depleted grimacite in gnomochloric acid, yet ...?--Bork 09:27, 26 June 2007 (CDT)
