Should clan names beginning with "The" get alphabetized with the T's or with the first letter of the second word in their name? If this were a library, we'd go with the second word... But it's not. What would work better for those folks who are looking for clan information? --jin 23:47, 10 May 2005 (Central Daylight Time)

Count "The", Hmmmmmmm

I really dont know but its a real good thought!

These well-known clans are still in the clan category and some aren't listed in teh clan directory:

  • Iocaine Powder
  • Jicken Wings
  • The Ninjapiratezombierobot clan
  • Noblesse Oblige
  • Otori
  • The Rye

Should they be uncategorized and all be in the directory?--Dehstil 19:52, 24 May 2006 (CDT)

  • I do not belive there is anything that people have put in a in wiki page that isn't better suited on its own website somewhere else. I've gone throuhg and replaced nearly all of the links to clan pages (that are linked to enough to show up on 'wanted pages') with links to their web pages. I think someone whined to Jinya about all of them being removed. All links to the pages (as of a few weeks ago) are now to their respective website, except for The Rye because it seems their site is blank and Jicken Wings becuase they don't have one. And they should be all in the Clan Directory, except for the 2 previously mentioned. Template:Clan was altered to avoid interwikilinking to clan pages and encourage external linking to them. Most clan pages were just membership rosters anyway and all had more page edits than they did page views. --JRSiebz (|§|) 20:23, 24 May 2006 (CDT)
    • I'm still unclear on what constitutes a "special clan" ..? --LucySpace 21:15, 6 June 2006 (CDT)
      • Here is a nice easy referenceable list.
  1. They have a custom item named after them (Warhouse 23 bling, N.O. Beer)
  2. The clan owner owns this wiki.
  3. The clan owner hosts this wiki.
So there you have it =).--SomeStranger (T | C) 18:26, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
        • That makes sense to me. Thanks for a response. W23 isn't listed on the page and I was confused at why clans like IP and Rye were listed but not clans like Sparkle Motion, etc

Special Clans

I was wondering...Why exactly these 6 clans get their own clan page, and no one else is allowed to have a clan page of their own on the wiki, let alone listed on the clans page as a 'Special clan.' Can someone please explain this to me? I just want to know, because my clan's page was deleted after hours of work was put into it. And if some clans are going to be granted permission to have pages, while others won't, At least make them nice and properly formatted. The Rye for example, has NO formatting at all. I'm sorry to these 6 clans, but I am just insulted. Now come on, Either all clans are allowed to have a small clan page, or get rid of these 6.--Veszerin 18:07, 7 June 2006 (CDT)

  • It's really subjective, that's why I'd like to see 'em all disappear. To me, it's easier to just say no right away to all of 'em, to prevent any future arguments. I mean ook at the into/history/about/roster pages of Otori's, Iocaine Powder's, and Noblesse-Oblige's websites. They are all very good. They give a much better idea of who that that is than any wiki page ever could. I've already changed wikipages to link to clan websites. The Rye don;t have to seem a website at all (that's up anyway), and their wiki page is nothing more than a history copy and paste. And Jicken Wings, no matter how much I like their name or the collection database, don't seem to even have a site either (that I can find anywhere). I mean we can play favorites because some wiki and/or coldfront peeps are in certain clans, but that's not really "fair". Hell, some of the first clan pages and user pages I (re)moved where my own, just so no one could complain "Why you re(move) mine, you have one!". Else the will always be arguing over what is a "specal" clan. People see a clan category, see a "special" clan section, and think, "Hey, I wanna be special. Why isn't mine there? I think I'd add me/mine". I mean a clan wiki page just ends up being a "dummy" clan we page anyway (usualy just a history + (former) member roster which is blah-blah-blah to wiki readers anyway), so why not link to a better real web page elsehwere? Everything "neat" about a clan ends up getting written into real history pages, item pages, etc. And when their mentioned, can be a link to their site. It's not like I want clans not to be mentioned and taken out of the wiki entirely. I just like being consistent, and it's really hard to be consistent, when you make exceptions. --JRSiebz (|§|) 23:16, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
    • I tend to agree with you here. There are many clans that are well-known within the Kingdom but aren't mentioned here. I don't especially mind leaving their history on the site (not that I really care about any clan's history except the one I'm in) if the links are moved to the regular clan directory; that way, we don't get cluttered up with users seeing the Special Clan section and deciding to add a clan that appears special to them. I can understand the reasoning behind leaving N.O. or Jicken Wings, but it's harder for me to see the reason behind leaving IP or Rye when there are other clans who might call themselves "special," such as Demonology, Lucky 888, Institute of Fluff, Teh Club, Aflubadubdub!, Hardcore Oxygenation, etc. I understand that the clans were left up because they were "big-name" and had "good content" in them, but it's harder for me to see whether other "big-name" clans can add pages as long as there is "good content" in them, and where we draw the line as to what special means. --LucySpace 23:38, 7 June 2006 (CDT)

Just Because

  • Those 6 clans were restored for various reasons. NPZR, Otori, W23, and NO have in-game items named after them, and thus were deemed "important" clans. The Rye, Jicken Wings, and Iocaine Powder are big-name clans who had significant content in their pages before deletion. There were a few other big-name clans I attempted to restore, who had nothing of significance in their page. JRSiebz would prefer that ALL clan pages, including these, were *poof*. I don't particularly care about clan and user/player pages much at all, and don't mind seeing a few. However, even just a few seems to make everyone else think they are also important enough for one. The player page issue has been mostly resolved by moving them to the user pages in cases where they exist. With clans, it comes down to what makes a clan important. An in-game item signifies that even if the clan ceases to exist, they will "go down in history", thus they're deemed important. The other three clan's pages could probably go *poof*, but I wanted to restore Jicken Wings's page, as they're my clan, and we haven't gotten to making our own site anywhere (but it's in the works)... IP and Rye are clan names that are recognized by many players. Whereas, "Joe's Slummy Clan of Creeps" isn't recognized by anyone but Joe and his multis. --jin 19:31, 7 June 2006 (CDT)
    • Personally, I think there should be some outlined criteria(fair criteria, Not just what clan has the most mods), potentially achievable by all kinds of clans in their own way, that would allow them to have their own clan page on the wiki, that would be linked from the directory, not the clan page. If there are clan pages, it shouldn't just be clans that got items named after them, they have websites to brag about that. And there are I believe only 4 items named after clans: N.O. Beer, Otorian Battle Scar, NPZR, and W23 Bling. But at least make one of the criteria be that it has to be a decently made page. Again, it has to be fair, and achievable by all different kinds of clans in their own way.--Veszerin 00:59, 8 June 2006 (CDT)
      • To be completely honest this was never meant to be fair. This was never meant to be a place for clan pages to exist. Think of it this way: This is Jinya's website. Just like is the Noblesse Oblige website and is the IP website, this is Jinya's website. Now here is the difference, instead of hosting a clan webpage, she has decided to host a wiki for KoL information. Now, as a small token of vanity, she decides that she wants her clan to have a tiny space on her wiki. Unfair? Not particularly. Now, that explains Jicken Wings. The rest of them all have personal items or are somehow in cahoots with the dev team. Now if we all want to go insane, we COULD make a clan namespace on the wiki. (Clan: and Clan talk:), but that is doubtful. In closing I say simply this: "You can't always get what you wanted, you can't always get what you wanted. But if you try some time, you just might find you get what you need." You don't need a clan page.--SomeStranger (T | C) 14:44, 9 June 2006 (CDT)
    • Jinya, would you be opposed to leaving the clan histories for these 6 clans on the wiki, but (1) linking to the Jicken Wings, Iocaine Powder and Rye wiki pages in the Clan Directory, (2) taking JW, IP, and Rye off the special list, (3) renaming "Special Clans" to "Clans with In-Game Items" and (4) adding W23 to the list? That way we could provide information on clans that had enough significance to have items in-game while not giving other clans special importance and we wouldn't need to completely erase the information on the other three clans (info that may not exist anywhere else). --LucySpace 13:43, 9 June 2006 (CDT)
