Hat effect not part of outfit

It's not exactly an ability, but wearing the outfit makes all your combat opponents appear as jellyfish, right? -- Pandaba 00:47, 15 June 2006 (CDT)

  • That's an effect of the hat that's part of the outfit: one of the intrinsic effects it bestows upon its wearer is Jellyfish Vision, so that wouldn't be an effect resulting from the wearing of the entire outfit. - Seraphidel  [話] Talk  03:28, 15 June 2006 (CDT)

Zapping parts

Also, now that we know that the Encaphalic Ensemble is an outfit, I'd assume zapping the individual pieces of equipment would yield another item within the set. Will confirm this ASAP, if someone hasn't done so already. - Seraphidel  [話] Talk  03:34, 15 June 2006 (CDT)

+ damage?

I think I'm getting extra cold and sleaze damage - I'm consistently getting +6 +3 +6 damage with the outfit on.

  • You wouldn't happen to be fighting hippies, would you? --Ben-San Arizona 16:47, 23 June 2006 (CDT)
  • Yep, I was... VanWEric

I saw no evidence for such an effect.--Mis2027 19:57, 10 October 2007 (CDT)

Stats?

I haven't actually tested anything yet, but it would seem by the spirit of the outfit that it might give extra stats. Just a thought. --Wallawalla23 19:37, 29 June 2006 (CDT)

Tested it and I saw no evidence for such.--Mis2027 17:43, 10 October 2007 (CDT)

Rollover Effect

Okay, I had the Ensemble equipped over rollover, I've just logged in for the first time today, I'm in hardcore, I have a Newbiesport Tent, and I only have 10 MP. So, unless there's some further information I don't know about, it's not granting 15 HP and MP at rollover. In fact, it looks like it's not granting any MP at all.

I'm not certain about my HP pre-rollover, so I can't tell if it grants HP. --Oracle of Wuffing 12:32, 13 February 2007 (CST)

Is 10 your maximum MP? if it is, then it won't go into improper fractions, so it's obvious that it doesn't grant HP/MP because it's already maxed out. I'm asking this because you have a Newbie Tent, so 10 might still be your maximum. You should try wearing it today and see if it still works. --Coolguy00001 (t|c) 16:04, 19 February 2007 (CST)

I distinctly remember having more than 10 Max MP, but that was then and this is now, I guess. I will try it again, but I've freed the king now, and I don't know if that does or doesn't change things. --Oracle of Wuffing 16:34, 19 February 2007 (CST)

If it doesn't work, there is always the possibility that it regenerates MP/HP based on level. I'll try it also, but after the stat day, because I need the adventures from Sword behind inappropriate prepositions to train Muscle. --Coolguy00001 (t|c) 16:44, 19 February 2007 (CST)

Okay, here are the results:

Level 11 Boogie Brigand

Campground: House

Equipment:

Cloche, Crossbow, Culottes

Tiki Lighter

Stainless Steel Solitaire

Dead Guy's Watch

Tiny Plastic Skeletal Reindeer

Badger Badge

-

HP Before rollover: 4/75

MP Before rollover: 5/107

HP After rollover: 44/75

MP After rollover: 45/107

The house recovers up to 40 HP and MP each rollover. So, my conclusion hasn't changed: unless there's another factor I don't know about, this outfit is not giving any HP/MP per rollover.--Oracle of Wuffing 00:05, 20 February 2007 (CST)

+ spell damage?

I haven't tested it, but it makes sense to me.--Fly boy42 12:45, 16 September 2007 (CDT)

I saw no evidence for such...tested it with multiple spell types.--Mis2027 17:43, 10 October 2007 (CDT)

Combat Initiative?

Has anyone tried it? I will when I ascend, as high level Initiative is not fun.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Brion thenotgiant (talkcontribs) on 20:07, 10 April 2008

I did recently, and it did not seem to impart any initiative advantage.--Foggy 10:58, 24 April 2008 (CDT)

Tattoo, String Cheese Incident

I think the tattoo is a reference to the song "Jellyfish" by String Cheese Incident, here are the lyrics in question; "My brain is just a jellyfish in the ocean of my head" --Timballisto 18:59, 19 March 2009 (UTC)

Item Drops

Thanks to the makeshift Scuba gear enchantments, it's relatively easy to determine if an outfit or effect has any effect on item drops. Strap on the gear, check yourself for passive item drop percentages and run mafia for about 100 adventures.

I did so in the Middle Chamber. No other equipment, level 28 Turtle Tamer with no passive item drop skills. I had an equipmentless origami towel crane along for the ride (I wanted to boost its weight for other reasons).

Over 70 adventures with the scuba gear and Ensemble, I had 1 leathery cat skin and 2 unidentified jerky drop.

Over 140 adventures with the same setup and Crimbo Assault Armor, I had no item drops.

So something about the ensemble (either the outfit or Jellyfish vision) affects item drops. More to come.--Foggy 22:52, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

With a level 31 Turtle Tamer with no passive item drop skills (foggy4):

  • 100 adventures with the Encephalic Ensemble and makeshift scuba gear:
    • 1 canopic jar, 1 Iiti Kitty charm, 2 magi-wipes, and 3 unidentified jerky
    • 26 Iiti Kitty, 36 tomb bat, 38 tomb servant
  • 100 adventures with same gear as above, except no Culottes (negating a -10 Myst increase)
    • No item drops. Nada. Not one
    • 32 Iiti Kitty, 33 tomb bat, 35 tomb servant

The second run of 100 was to eliminate Jellyfish Vision as the item drop boost. The question is: what is the item drop boost of the Encephalic Ensemble?--Foggy 15:56, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Testing with a Disco Bandit, level 26. Looting Skillz passive ability. Tested Ensemble with +90% item drops in addition; enchanted bean failed to drop. Tested at 95% item drops, was able to get 20 for 20 beans. I could use some help though in nailing down the exact percentage. (Currently appears to be 5%, which is pretty weak.)--Foggy 16:35, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

My multi, Eldarion (L16 Sauceror), did 200 turns at Ensemble + 94.24% item drop (30% plus 28 lb. Gravy Fairy) in Beanbat Chamber with 200 drops. Did 123 turns with Ensemble + 92.24% and got 123 drops. Testing ongoing.--Mis2027 02:33, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Failed drop 7 turns later at the lower drop bonus. Will continue testing to confirm the +5% bonus, but that looks sufficiently likely to warrant posting it.--Mis2027 17:25, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Another 100 drops without miss at 94.24% + Ensemble. We know for sure now that the drop bonus is less than 7.76%, and it appears to be consistent with approximately 5% (the 0.76% difference would only be expected to cause very rare missed drops). I'm going to attempt to collect the gear necessary to do exact testing without the weird floating point values from the fairy, and then will test 5% vs. 6% over many rounds.--Mis2027 20:22, 18 April 2009 (UTC)

Did testing with ensemble plus 94% item drop bonus in Beanbat Chamber - failed drop in less than 20 turns. That rules out +6%.--Mis2027 18:09, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Conducted a total of 600 turns at Ensemble plus 95% Items from Monsters bonus (Fat Leon's Phat Loot Lyric, Eggs-tra Sensory Perception, Heart of Lavender, Blue Tongue, Baron von Ratsworth's monocle, Green Clover of Justice, and Lucky rabbit's foot. Got a perfect 600 bean drops. If the bonus were only +4%, that would have an expected outcome of less than once in every 20 attempts, i.e. p<0.05 (the exact probability of that outcome with +4% from the Ensemble was 4.94%). I think it's safe to call it 5%.--Mis2027 18:09, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
