Cool Whip

  • "This familiar might be a reference to the product Cool Whip". I seriously doubt that, and fail to make the connection. Can anyone explain this to me? --Aardvark 17:52, 13 Sep 2005 (Central Daylight Time)
  • Agreed. Probably called a 'ghuol whelp' because it's a young ghuol. I think this is a case of trying to find a reference where none exists. I suppose that if you were drunk, "Ghuol Whelp" might sound a little like "Cool Whip". --Mr. Blonde 02:02, 29 Sep 2005 (MDT)
  • Strongly disagree. I looked here precisely because I couldn't figure out why the Cool Whip reference wasn't on the page. Look at the haiku again. It's describing the Ghuol Whelp as the exact opposite of Cool Whip. There's no reason for all that talk about "appetizing" and "good for you" without this pun. "Whelp" is quite an obscure word choice for a young ghoul; it is most often used to describe a young dog, while ghouls are most often rendered as either monstrous humans or inhuman monsters. I'm going to put this Reference back in unless someone can convince me I'm confused. --PO8 09:38, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

Maypole = Lovecraft?

The Maypole message looks like a H. P. Lovecraft reference to me, but I'm not sure how to phrase it... anyone else got an idea? --Suneagle 10:02, 26 March 2006 (CST)

  • Hmm. Vaguely, yes. It would be tough to condense, though... Perhaps: "H.P. Lovecraft, who wrote about ghouls in the short story Pickman's Model, would often use archaic words such as 'gibber' and 'squamous'." Unfortunately, neither word is specifically mentioned in Pickman's Model. Mr. Blonde 04:24, 9 June 2006 (CDT)
  • Wikipedia mentions three more stories where ghouls (or ghoul-like beings) appear, so I would say the reference is there. That does not make it easier to phrase, though. --Suneagle 19:19, 19 August 2006 (CDT)
  • There's no question that the choice of words suggests Lovecraft. What is odd is that the word 'squamous' means scaly, an odd choice of word to describe a dance. --Eepie chirper 16:28, 2 April 2007 (CDT)

Formula

I feel that it would be useful to do some testing to find out the formulas for HP and MP gain after combat. Anyone? Anyone? Yiab? Beuller? --shaft1986 22:00, 15 April 2006 (CDT)

I agree with you there. someone shoulod at least find a range of the HP and MP of which it increases, and a formula would be very good.

I've started work on this. On the first day of testing, X and Y maxed out at N+5 and bottomed out at (N+5)/2, roughly. Over 451 adventures, the ghuol whelp acted 235 times, for a percentage of 52.1%. It should be noted that there is currently 52.5% Grimacite light in the moons today, which appears to be too much of a coincidence. I'm going to do a second set of tests about five days from now.--Foggy 10:56, 1 August 2006 (CDT)

My 25-pound whelp just healed me for 32 HP. It's clearly more to it than just weight + 5. - Algernon Mabus 14:02, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

  • Yes, clearly your character is Wallaby sign. --Hellion 17:20, 20 October 2009 (UTC)
    • Hmm, right you are. My bad. - Algernon Mabus 17:12, 28 October 2009 (UTC)
