Question about the scratch and sniff weapons, should it be noted that if you are wearing one of the outfits listed that the scratch and sniff weapon is a good weapon to place on a disembodied hand if you aren't able to raise your familiar weight to 30 pounds. --Golianor 10:44, 22 January 2009 (UTC)

Suggested Changes

Bounty hunting rig in ascender column? Given that the column is supposed to be for casual or new players to the game, I really not thinking that's the right spot for it. The outfit takes 45 days of lucre farming. At approximately 40 turns per lucre, that's 1800 turns. If spent in the castle farming, figuring a mere 600 meat per turn between direct meat drops and items, that's over 1 million meat. --Dantose 10:08, 14 December 2007 (CST)

        • Wow, I'm amazed that semantic hairsplitting trumps helping the wiki users. The whole point of the table is to provide information. Due to the 2006 october item of the month, the Plastic pumpkin bucket, I suggest the "Ascender" coloumn be changed to include it. How does the item drop rate of a Coffee Pixie compare to the Gravy type familiars (Baby Gravy Fairy, Flaming Gravy Fairy, Stinky Gravy Fairy, Frozen Gravy Fairy)? What about Mr. Accessory Jr.s? I'm not all that thrilled with this deity/villa/hardcore/&c layout stuff. It doesn't seem to capture the combinations that are possible. Don't get me wrong - it's nice to see a "what if you had the bestest items", but a more useful page would list all the item drops and let the user decide what he can equip. I added the Blue Tongue to the list, though we don't know the exact +drop addition; I left between Fat Leon's Phat Loot Lyric and Eggs-tra Sensory Perception because thus far its drop rate is perceived to be around 30%. I've updated the Villa and KoL Deity percentages to reflect the possibility of a 55% item drop boost on the Jekyllin hide belt under the new Moons. I'm surprised nobody had spotted this yet. --Wrldwzrd89 14:53, 3 September 2006 (CDT)

Is there a reason that the Gnauga hide whip is the lower weapon of choice (giving 3% drop boost), as opposed to the Bubble bauble bow, which gives a 5% boost? I don't want to change it if there's a reason I don't see, but it might just not be updated since the bow is relatively new, in which case it should probably be updated. -- octopodey 15:00, 4 September 2006 (CDT)

  • I made the replacement of the bubble bauble bow for the lower two ranks. It's easier to get, and has a marginally higher drop boost. Since the bow is two-handed, the duck-on-a-string is better for maximizing drops, so I didn't replace it.     • I've added it as an alternate choice for the respective classes. Since this page deals exclusively with item drops it makes the most sense to list all possible alternatives with equal distribution. Tongue Effects

Tongue effects available to players are governed by the Maximum Item Buff Value guidelines as detailed in Dressing For Success, which states as follows: "The maximum value of an item that gives the desired buff. Hardcore type players and above have no limit. Normal type players have a 10,000 meat limit, which allows them most of the item buffs, including most of the nice buffs from reagent potions. Apathetic Lizardmen get a limit of 1,000 meat." The best tongue effect comes from Black Snowcones which are currently going for 30,000, whereas the second best tongue effect (for item drops) comes from Blue Snowcones, currently going for 750. Accordingly, Black Tongue is available for Hardcore and above and Blue Tongue is available for Normal and Apathetic Lizardmen. If the Maximum Item Buff Value guidelines are felt to be unreasonable, then proposed changes should be brought up in the Talk:Dressing For Success page rather than making changes that do not conform to the existing standard.--Gymnosophist 19:30, 20 April 2006 (CDT)

  • Oh, I had no idea that was what those totals meant. Previously I had believed that that was the TOTAL amount maximum that players could spend on items. With that said I think that the only real use this page has for players is to show them the highest maintanable item bonus. Do you really think that an apathetic Lizardman could maintain snowcones while using adventures? By maintain I mean keep it going for 100 adventures and use it cost effectively. I would have to say that this is impossible. I know that when I was first starting out I used the maximizing your meat gains table to figure out which meat items I should use. The snowcone and other rare buffs which are received from usable items and are hard to maintain were very misleading in deciding which items and buffs I should use. Now maybe this is not the point of this and the other maximizing your items drops pages. But considering that you have divided the players into sections and not just one group called the "Best Possible items group" shows me that the intent of this page was to be useful. Maximizing (Food) Drops

Rice bowl gives +20% food drops. It would be better than nothing if you're going to have an empty off-hand item slot, and if you're farming for food or edible ingredients, it's better than a second duck-on-a-string.--RyokoYahagi 15:39, 21 April 2006 (CDT)

Why doesn't villa have access to a hypnodisk? Villa is capable of being achieved by everyone, and although hypnodisks are ultra rares, they are still physically capable of being found by anyone. They may be expensive as hell, but having access to the backpack, 3 belts, the maypole, and the ice pick is extremely expensive too. as far as I can see, there is only a 1-2% difference between villa and diety. I won't edit it in though, since more than likely someone has a good argument about this. If they feel so inclined to, I'll let someone else edit it in. I suppose that the mr. container would also be achievable with enough cash, and it's even less expensive than the hypnodisk, so I suppose that's a good enough reason for it not to be added. oh well, those are my thoughts. --Jcj64200031 00:04, 9 July 2006 (CDT)

Link to Item Drop modifiers

I think there should be a link to item drop modifiers to allow some people other choices in case they can't obtain any of the item drop modifiers listed. Also, I've been adventuring in the 8-bit Realm a lot so I can get red pixel potions. Considering I can only wield a one-handed weapon if I want to be able to hold the Continuum Transfunctioner, I would like to see a link to all possible item modifiers so I can find a one-handed weapon that increases item drops.--Aznpride05 21:39, 2 October 2006 (CDT)

Villa Price Range

Include the belts?

I just checked the mall, and the price for Jekyllin Hide Belts was about 15 million. I thought the ceiling for the price of Villa level equipment was 10 million. Should it continue to be included? If not, then I think the next option is Mr. Accessory Jrs.

Mysterious Island Quest Reward Items

Seems to me that even an ascender could easily get ahold of 3 Red Balloons/Uranium Omeagas for 11% each, which would be much better than the rabbit's feet... heck, it's a required quest so even an apathetic lizardman could eventually get them. I decided to add all three +11% items for Ascenders. Would a normal player bother getting any of them, and if so, which one? The wossname takes fewer adventures than the other +11% items, but it's also easy to screw up. Maybe someone would take the +10/9/8% item instead. Jumpsuited Hound Dog

  • Kind of moot at this point as the formula isn't known yet (?), but I'd say that Deity and Villa is allowed, whereas Ascender and under is not. Dressing For Success#Explanation of Methodology says: "This player has worked very hard and has ascended a number of times, including some hardcore runs, but has not gone to quite the extremes that a Villa player (villan) has." My reading is that "ascending a number of times" isn't long enough to get enough lucre. Although 100 days is arguable, so maybe disallow Normal and under. --Bagatelle 16:43, 17 September 2007 (CDT)

Plexiglass Pants

The deity is currently listed with plexiglass pants. This gives a 5% advantage over the bounty-hunting pants, but forfeits the 15% outfit bonus! Please explain.

The items in question are: Plexiglass Pants + Bottle-rocket Crossbow + Hypnodisk vs. Bounty Rifle + Bounty Pants.
Bounty Rifle + Bounty Pants gives + 30%, and then with the helm, an added bonus of +15% for a total of +45%
Plexi + BRC + Hypnodisk gives + 20 + 10 + 25 = +55%, clearly more than the Bounty Rifle + Bounty Pants.--MindlessGames 10:13, 13 March 2008 (CDT)

Pilgrim Shield or Rice Bowl

The notes under the table which describe the circumstances where it would be preferable to use a Pilgrim Shield or Rice Bowl in the off-hand (over the Bounty Rifle + Outfit) should include a recommendation of a bottle-rocket crossbow (Villa?) or duct tape sword (Normal or Ascender?) for the weapon slot. --SeeSaw 13:07, 17 March 2008 (CDT)

Hodgman Outfit: Summon Hobo Underling

If you have on the Full Frippery Outfit, you can summon a hobo underling. This underling can dance, sing, etc. Those effects do affect item, meat, and other drops. That should be added to the table. --Ashallond 23:39, 15 October 2008 (UTC)

The Hodgman's Regal Frippery, Bounty-Hunting Rig and Custom outfits section have Accessory 1 and Accessory 2 slots, but no Accessory 3 slots. Is this due to:

a) A simple oversight? b) an attempt to simplify or minimise the number of items for each outfit? c) argument over the best item to use (i.e. because of the variability of the Jekyllin hide boots?) or d) Jekyllin hide boots, Grimacite gogo-boots and Grimacie gorgets being omitted due to their price?

My argument is that an Accessory 3 slot should at least be added to inlcude a Mr. Accessory Jr. for each outfit and changing the total percentages for The Hodgman's Regal Frippery to 196.5%, the Bounty-Hunting Rig to 140% and Custom outfit to 135%.   • My guess would be that for Hodgman's outfit, 2 accessory slots are required, whereas none are *required* to get the Bounty hunter outfit effect. The Mr. As were added in for a sense of parity. Adding a given item in the accessory 3 slot wouldn't differentiate them, simply raise all their numbers by the same amount. I probably didn't do a very good job of getting the point across, but I tried. --Alabit 00:14, 19 January 2009 (UTC)
  • Actually, only 1 Accessory slot - for Hodgman's bow tie, is needed. Hodgman's lucky sock is not part of the outfit. Thus, either include one Accessory slot or three Accessory slots for all three outfits, but not two. Perhaps 'optional' - in parenthesis, should also be added to the Bounty-Hunting rig and the custom outfit to make it clearer that those Accessories are not actually part of the outfit.   • I'd have to agree that the 'custom' outfit does not belong in the first place. However, the other two are useful in that they highlight the fact that there is a bonus item drop percentage tied to wearing the full outfits. If you want to be as uniform (no pun intended) as possible, then the actual 'outfit' section of the table above the table discussed can be expanded. That said, the order of the tables of each 'maximising your...' page are different and, arguably, shouldn't be. I.e. there should be the following titles for each table: Familiar, Hat, shirt, Pants, Mainhand, Offhand, Accessory, Outfit, Familiar Equipment, Effects and Buffs, Familiar Weight Effects and Buffs, Passive Skills, non-buff skills and others.   • So - what is the verdict? Should the small Outfits table be deleted - with the information about Hodgman's Regal Frippery and other Hobo power items being moved elsewhere, i.e. the Outfits section in the main table, or should it be edited so that it is clear that there are 3 Accessory slots, only one of which must be used for Hodgman's Regal Frippery and all the other outfits Accessories are optional. Specialized item drops

Why shouldn't the CHUM lantern and the old soft shoes go in the "notes" section, with the other restrictive drops?

I must say that I agree that we should have a 'specialized' section -- food, booze and stuff like the CHUM lantern. I think these are noteworthy. We have SOME booze/food item drop increasers in the list, but not all -- I don't understand why. As one example, the Straw Hat and Booze sign are listed for booze drop increasing, but not the Rum barrel charrrm bracelet. If someone wanted to farm booze, specifically, I think it's worth having a list somewhere of all the booze-drop increasers. Keep pure item drop together and have a 'specialized item drop' list for booze, food, underwater, hobo, etc. Or, we need one list (as it is now) but add in these other specialized items (like we have for some but not all). Hound Dog %s are incorrect

Mat Hat Rack

Should the Mad Hatrack be mentioned? With a Spangly sombrero (2*Fairy, Cap: 37) you get the equivalent of a 74lb Fairy or a 59,2lb Hounddog at max weight and it's much cheaper to keep a familiar at 37lb than 74 or 59lb :) A problem is that the Hat Rack can't equip familiar equipment so e.g. maypole and bucket are out. --BongBob 19:37, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Mayflower Bouquet

My math skills atrophied. Looking at the Mayflower bouquet in the talk section it states that the item drop percentage is 25% with a 12.5% chance of that particular effect happening. That makes the average item drop percentage 3.125%? --MageRed (talk) 20:54, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Miscellaneous boosters

I've been working on editing this lately, and I've been thinking - how important or relevant are the non-standard modifiers? If people are looking to maximize item drops as a whole, adding food, booze, candy or niche equipment drops are likely to make things more convoluted than necessary. I'm not sure if anyone will see this, but perhaps they should be removed from this page, and just kept to the general +item drop modifiers list?--Volc (talk) 18:18, 18 January 2019 (UTC)
