Quoting myself from the Proposed Standards:

Allowing player pages turns the wiki into a KoL player myspace/livejournal. All current player pages are being moved (back) to wiki User: pages. Clan pages may also be removed (or at least thinned), since people can just link to KoL forum threads and their clan website directly, withou the need for a mediary clan page on the wiki. A clan may be listed in the Clan Directory (if it has a website/forums, etc. to list). So if your in clan Google, it'd be better just to say "I'm in clan Google" and link offsite, than to create a Google clan page on the wiki. You can do whatever your want on your own external (clan) website. A better category name than "Players" would end up containing the Jick page, and other developers, or extremely important people (with useful/interesting pages), which is subjective, so it'll be tricky to regulate. Fun, eh? Otherwise everyone and their grandma is going to create player and clan pages on the wiki, making the database extra large, and stealing bandwith from those trying to use the wiki as reference, or adding useful content to the wiki. --JRSiebz (☎|§|‡) 20:47, 10 March 2006 (CST)
  • Every single player page (which had a wiki user associated with it) was moved. Everyone, even admins. ;-) So no bitchin'. The pages left is this category are ones which I have difficulty with and have no wiki User: to move them to. Many of the pages, Jick, Skully, Riff, Xeno, Xylinia, etc. are employees of Asymmetric Publications, LLC and/or have very useful/interesting pages. PVA is pretty well known and had his Gene Ray interview, FAY is an interesting radio character (to say the least), and KMD is a pretty well-known dj (who has done some large charitable things). PhilANThropiSt's page s short, werebear and bachy are really well known, Bashy, practically a KoL god. The short Papa Zito page could just be include on the KOLmelion part of the Tools page, and I have no idea what to do twith the Papabear page. And it seems maybe the buffbot pages should be removed, and instead be listed on a page in which their names link to their website which contain their *most current* price info. It seems redundant to just copy the info here (not to mention making sure it's up to date all the time). Maybe the retired Vanna and Repot should be restricted to short quips on the misc section of the bots page. I can't decide what to keep, and maybe this category should be removed and or renamed? KoL Flunkies? Leaviing it "players" seems to lead to people adding themselves to it (thinking, "hell i'm a player". And Jick isn't really a "player" anyway. So I want some comments ;-) category name?, category at all? what pages qualify and why? Arg! Spanks! And PS, maybe it's better for all clan pages to see the same fate. Linking to a clan's website in a news item, user: page, etc. (instead of linking to a wiki page) seems more valuable than linking to a wiki page which ends up being a mini clan website. That way a clan can list past/presents events, their history, memebers, etc. how every they want... offwikisite. --JRSiebz (|§|) 22:07, 17 March 2006 (CST)

How about simply an "Important People" section instead of "Players", and have everythign else move to user pages, as noted.--Rikmach 23:00, 17 March 2006 (CST)

  • ...but that doesn't solve any problems, who/what makes/decides whois is an important player or clan? Seems like nothing but potential flamebait to me. --JRSiebz (|§|) 21:45, 23 March 2006 (CST)
  • I like the idea of someone coming up with a KoLMyspace... after all, we have a game, a wiki, a fansite, a chatroom (perhaps the best on the net), and of course forums. The next logical step is to create KoLMySpace! --Soupersalad 20:35, 31 May, 2006 (PST DS)
